So my first semester at Kwantlen (KPU - as they would like us to call it) has been pretty fun so far. In comparison to BCIT, it has been more meaningful. I really enjoyed my time studying interior design at BCIT but I am way more excited to be at KPU. Already, in just two short months, I am more inspired. This feels right! That's a good sign right?
Anyways, I am taking 5 classes and they are as follows:
Design Awareness
This is a really fun class for me. Especially our 'Plate' exercises. Each we have gotten a quote (about various principles and elements of design) and we have to find an image that represents it the most and incorporate the text. I have so much fun with these! I think thanks to Jon, I am more graphic design inclined. I have learned to hate photoshop less doing these plates too.
Studio
So far we've done a bunch of 3D projects for this class. We did one for fruits and vegetables, we worked with foam (which absolutely KILLED me inside because of the fact that we used so much of it and non of it can be recycled), we're about to create shapes using paper. It's just a lot of thought provoking work - looking at shape and form and negative space. I personally haven't been able to find inspiration in any of the work but things are getting done. I am sure I'll look back on these projects and realize I've learned from them. Since I spent time at BCIT, studio to me is creating spaces and I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO DO THAT!
Technical Drawing
This class is a breeze for me. I do not want to brag, but I've been drafting for so long now that at this stage I am not learning anything new, just different styles. For example, title blocks; I am used to doing a very different type of title block then the one taught at KPU (I like the style that is presented at KPU better). Again, another fun class for me, I really enjoy drafting.
Materials
Okay. I love materials. I love learning about them in every aspect. This. Class. Is. Great. <3
Social & Cultural Anthropology (elective)
This class is my elective for the semester. I chose it because I think studying humans is very interesting. Just like I imagined this class is thought provoking and extremely interesting. I would recommend it to anyone!
I am also working, which makes my schedule pretty hectic but I manage to get things done. I think I will wrap things up here.
