On June 1st I went to see Ben Rogers at the Biltmore. It was yet another show that Jon convinced me to go to. Ben's folk/americana style was captive. The show had a very good vibe. It was a smaller crowd, seemed like mostly friends of Ben Rogers, who is local to Vancouver. If you visit his bandcamp, you can check out his stuff and if you need any convincing...
"Murder stories, love stories, salvation stories, tragic stories, rich man stories, poor man stories, drug stories, blonde stories, blue stories, red stories, lost stories."
The openers, The Sojourners, were fantastic! They're dubbed a gospel group but have a big blues sound too. Each of the three men's voices were chilling (in a good way). There were definitely times where I just closed my eyes and let their voices fill my being. I really recommend checking them out. especially if you're a sucker for soulful voices.
Ben and the Sojourners did a couple of songs together and both styles complemented each other so well. All in all, another great show I was lucky enough to attend - all for a total of $10!
See, you really don't have to spend ridiculous amounts of dollars to go see a darn good live show.
